So I really have grown to love Starbucks shaken passion fruit tea. It is sooo freaking good. They have a Starbucks in my local supermarket so every time I go grocery shopping I have to buy one, and at 5 bucks or so a pop, that is way too much. I am super cheap. So I have been tinkering around in the kitchen trying to make these at home. I think I just may have nailed it!
Ingredients that you will need, which really isnt much.
2 quarts of water. (I only used 2 quarts because that is the size of my container)
1/2 cup sugar
4 Tazo Passion Tea bags
a pan
Add the 2 quarts of water to the pan, add the sugar and bring to a boil.
After you get to a nice boil shut off the heat and add your tea bags, and wait……..
I let my steep for about an hour and a half, I really think the longer the better.
Pour the tea into your container and refrigerate.
After it gets cold, get your cup (you will need one with lid) and fill it to the top with ice.
I like to add extra sugar to mine because I LOVE my tea sweet. My daughter however does not.
Pour your refrigerated tea over the ice, add the lid and shake the heck out of it.
There you have it, shaken passion tea. For about 50 cents.
Enjoy!
This is my favorite cold drink at Starbucks. Also, I have that cup. Thanks for the recipe!
I like to make something similar to this but I use my glazed tea pot & cozy and then add honey instead of sugar. Agave nectar is equally as good and seems to bring out the tea flavors more I find:)
I will have to try this! Thanks!
Just had my first Passion Fruit Tea today at Starbucks…LOVE IT .I didn’t get it sweetened and i thought it still tasted really good..but I think I will try the agave nectar..thanks for the suggestion-Kel
Make a little extra and freeze in ice cube tray, use this instead of regular ice, No need to add extra sugar, it doesn’t get watered down.
Starbucks uses the tazo tea’s I don’t sweeten my passion tea so luckily it’s exactly the same when I make it at home .. They use liquid sweeteners at Starbucks.. Idk what the ratio is between that an regular sugar.. For a Trenta passion tea (no lemonade) it’s approx 3 dollars where I live .. Also it’s worth it to get the app so you can earn free drinks
I maje these without sugar sll the time. You really don’t want to leave the tea bags to steep much longer than a few hours, it gets tannic and changes the taste.
If you want to save even more money, just get basic hibiscus tea in bulk at the grocery store and it is extremely close and much, much less expensive than Tazo.
I like tea, I like fruity things….But..
I freaking loooooooooove this!!
I made it lasy night, steeped for 2 hrs, but added 2/3 c sugar. It is sooo amazing. Thank you for bringing this awesomeness into my life. 😀
You think it only tastes better because you are steeping it for soo long and adding soo much sugar… Starbucks uses the same process to make it. Using a simple syrup called classic (basically equal parts water & sugar) when they shake it. If you like it stronger and more sugary at Starbucks, ask for no water and extra pumps of syrup. It also shouldn’t be costing you so much when you buy it… It should only cost about $3 like Christine says. They must be over charging you.
Where can you find tazo passion tea?? I can’t find it at my local grocery store!
You can purchase the Tazo tea at Starbucks or Target.
Hi, Allie B this is Carlotta at first I had went to target n Starbucks for the Tazo Tea and it was a little to pricey and at first Walmart didn’t carry it but now they do and it comes in different Tazo Flavors and it Carries 2-different Passion Fruit teas. So, one is Iced Passion Fruit and the other is Passion Friut I’d went and purchased both and they both are Awesome and oh so GOOD!! When, I go to Starbucks I always gets the Trenta Iced Passion Tea with Apple juice sweeten where you can taste the apple juice. If, you’ve never tried it this way then one day I really do ADVISE you and others to try it this way!!! I PROMISE YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!! Remember, when you’re ordering to ask for: (“ICED PASSION FRUIT TEA with APPLE JUICE SWEETEN”) . Don’t, FORGET To Order your CUP-SIZE 🙂 . Enjoy & Let me know what you think!!!
I work for Starbucks so…..Here is the recipe for Starbucks Passion Tea: Allow 1 iced tazo tea bag into 1 liter of hot water. Allow to steep for 5 minutes. Remove the Tea bag and add 1 liter of cold water (or to the top of your two liter pitcher). When you go to make your drink you mix equal parts tea to cold water. The Classic syrup is a liquid sugar 1 pump equals two sugars. So for 12 oz 3 pumps, 16 oz 4 pumps, 24 oz 6 pumps, and 31 oz 7 pumps. Shake with ice and enjoy.
Hey, Ashley Question how and when do you add the Apple Juice because whenever I go to Starbucks I always get – (“Iced Passion Fruit Tea with Apple-Juice Sweeten”). So, exactly how would I make this? Please, Help.. Thanks, a million!!! Carlotta
Using a simple syrup recipe works better in place of the sugar – having worked at Starbucks I can tell you that’s what they use! Not sure what the ratios of water to sugar are, but it’s super easy and blends so much better than sugar alone!
The ratios are 2:1 boil 1 cup water to 2 cups sugar. Once sugar has dissolved you can let it cool and bottle it up. I keep mine in a olive oil bottle for easy use.
Make sure to shake it with the ice like a martini, this will aerate the tea and it does make a difference.
I used to work at Starbucks, and Emily is right. Just add simple syrup when you make your drink. That’s how it’s done. Also, to make the tea just put the tea bags into the pitcher and add boiling water about half way up. Steep for 4 minutes, then toss the tea bags and add ice and water to fill the pitcher. Easy Peasy!

You can buy the tea bags Starbucks uses for their iced teas online http://www.starbucksstore.com/Tazo%C2%AE-Iced-Passion%C2%AE-Filterbag-Tea%2C-6-count/011019077,default,pd.html?prefn1=iced&cgid=tea&prefv1=iced&cm_mmc=Sbuxcom-_-ShopMega-_-icedtea-_-Evergreen these are much easier than messing with the individual tea bags.
It’s not passion FRUIT tea. Just passion tea. There is no passion fruit in the tea. Also, its not $5, and if that’s what you’re being charged you’re being ripped off.
This is a great recipe, I tried it this weekend and loved it I actually made the lemonade version and it turned out great. I used the recipe above then added the Simply Lemonade and Raspberry syrup to it and it was delicious. Thanks, for the recipe this will definitely save lots of money
You can buy iced passion tea at Ralph’s grocery stores and its pretty much the same thing but better results
*Passion* tea. Not passion fruit. There is no fruit in Starbucks’ tea. Don’t steep it for more than five minutes or you’re obliterating the flavor of the tea, and always shake to aerate 🙂
Why does it matter what she called it? Technically there is fruit essence in the tea.
I make this also, but instead of sugar I use a packet of crystal light lemonade. Yummy 🙂
Oh my gosh this was amazing!! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
You misssed the Lemon
